Biden declares the midterm outcomes as positive for democracy.

U.S. President Joe Biden announced Wednesday that he plans to run for re-election. He will likely make a final decision by early next year after calling Tuesday’s midterm elections good for democracy.

Officials in the White House expressed relief that Biden’s fellow Democrats fared better than expected.

Biden, who turns 80 this month, has been asked whether he will run for re-election. According to a Biden adviser, preparations for a 2024 campaign are underway.

President told reporters at the White House while his wife Jill sat close. Biden stated that his family urged him to run and that he did not feel pressed to make a decision. He said that he would do so independently of any announcement made by his 2020 opponent, Republican former President Donald Trump, who is also expected to run.

Biden has spent his first two years in office warning against risks to democracy after Trump supporters stormed the White House. Capitol on January 6, 2021, and refused to recognize Biden’s rightful triumph.

He emphasized such points in the final days of the midterm elections.

When asked how other international leaders should see this time for America, with Trump potentially running again, Biden said the answer is to make sure Trump never returns to power.

“We just have to demonstrate that if he runs, he will not seize power, that he will not become the next president again under the legitimate means of our Constitution,” Biden added.

Trump has harshly criticized Biden’s programs and said he would announce his plans next week.

Biden said it would be “fascinating watching them take on each other” if Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis sought the Republican nomination.

In an upbeat mood, Biden engaged with the media for over an hour in the White House State Room.

Republicans made minor gains in Tuesday’s elections and are expected to capture control of the House, but control of the Senate is dependent on three contests that remained too close to call late Wednesday. First, a so-called “red wave” or massive Republican sweep did not materialize.

“I think it was a good day for democracy,” the president stated.

However, he recognized that the data indicated that Americans were dissatisfied. Inflation was a hot topic among voters.

President’s campaign pitch centered on averting challenges to American democracy, safeguarding abortion rights, and promoting his economic achievements.

Republicans are expected to try to overturn some of his policies and prevent him from reaching more ambitions.

Biden stated that he is prepared to work with Republicans.

“I suppose the American people have made it clear that they expect Republicans to be willing to work with me as well,” he added.

Biden indicated he would veto efforts to impose a national abortion ban and opposed tax cuts for the wealthy, both of which Republicans may pursue.

He stated that he would call with House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy later on Wednesday and that when Biden returns from his trip to Asia, he will bring Democratic and Republican leaders to the White House to discuss future objectives.

The White House is prepared for a slew of investigations from a Republican-controlled House, including one into his son Hunter’s business transactions. Biden said the American people would see such probes for what they were – “almost comedy” – but that he couldn’t control what they did.
